Purl Soho

Last week, a bunch of quilt obsessed women boarded a megabus in a suburb of Baltimore, and headed to NYC to see the Red and White Quilt Show. (More on that tomorrow!) After a few hours at the exhibit, we headed to The City Quilter and then, the mecca of quiltosity, Purl Soho. It was truly a feast for the eyes.

They had a huge variety of Libery of London. Sadly, at $35 per yard, my picture is all I could afford. Also bolts and bolts of Echino, shot cotton, organics, and other hard to finds. I bought the bolt end of some Ruby Star Rising viewfinder fabric, and whipped up this:

Really, for me, the stars of the shop were the fibers. The colors were beyond beautiful. I'm not a knitter, but these might make me change switch teams.

Delicious, right?

Modern Log Cabin Quilting

It's no secret, I'm a huge fan of the public library system. Especially when I can get the latest quilting books hot off the press. I picked up Modern Log Cabin Quilting by Susan Beal last week. There's a lot to like in this book. First of all, it's really pretty. The photography is enticing, but even the pages are decorative - each chapter has it's own border on the pages. Susan gives a good history of the log cabin, and how it's made it's way into the modern quilting world.

With 10 quilt patterns and 15 projects, I'm sure I'll be renewing this again and again. What I also like is that she mixes up her fabrics, like showcasing "modern" fabric next to up cycled corduroy. Denim even pops up every now and then. Of course, my favorite is the Vintage Linen Quilt.
It's hard to resist starting this beauty right now.
Must. Not. Start. New. Project.

So, check it out - literally!

Great Mail Day

I love getting packages in the mail. Even when it's Amazon, and I ordered it myself, it still feels like a present. That's part of the allure of flickr quilting bees - little bits of fabric mail. Yesterday, a bonanza!

First, the charm packs from Robert Kaufman arrived, for the Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild Challenge. 11 packs of Kona solids in the classic palette.
Next, some Heather Ross goodness from a swap I did with Crafty Tammie
Then, some lovelies from Lulubloom from my SewFun2 Bee. (I don't get to keep these - but it's just fun to open the package and play!)

Oh, and the package from City Quilter? It was just them mailing me back my gloves that I left in the store last week. I was hoping they were going to slip in an extra fq. No such luck!

Pyrex Cutie

I'm not a pyrex collecter, although I have a few fridgies that I love. But when I came across this cutie today, I had to bring her home. She'll be perfect for something. I'm just not sure what.

Hope

I'm a wanna be gardener. I want a ginormous garden, filled with tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, beans, beets, eggplant, herbs ~ all that yummy stuff. As for flowers, I like the classics ~ geraniums, azaleas, hydrangeas. I have no idea what grows here. Hopefully these!

I never plant pansies, but the yellow and purple were calling out to me.

The back yard of the new house doesn't get much sun, at least not in one spot for the herbs to flourish, so I've put them on the front porch in a ceramic planter. Only my favs: basil, Italian parsley, rosemary and thyme. I have no idea if the deer will get them or not (deer frequent the neighborhood, but not necessarily our yard - although with these tasty treats, who can blame them?) Maybe I can plant my ginormous garden in the front yard.

Three days ago, it was snowing. Today, 80 and sunny. It gives me hope.
