HonFest

If you're not from Bawlmer, I'll try to explain Hon Fest to you. Think John Waters. Think Hairspray.  “Hon”, short for Honey, is a classic Bawlmer term of endearment. HonFest is a local tradition. Hon embodies the warmth and affection bestowed upon our neighbors and visitors alike by historic working-women of Baltimore. HonFest is an annual celebration in honor of these women. (taken from the HonFest Website) HonFest is part dress up contest, part street fair. Tons of food, drink, shopping and people watching. Like this:

Haha... That looks like fun. I do love "Hairspray" the movie - original but even better the musical remake. I confess I have watched a few of JW's movies. (snicker snicker)
Good Morning Baltimore! There's the flasher who lives next door.....

I never did HonFest - I lived in Canton and Hampden was just too far away to be convenient (I know) - but I used to enjoy the taste of this during the Kinetic Sculpture Race put on by the American Visionary Arts Museum each spring. One year my son - then around 8 - designed his own outfit wearing 3D glasses with masking tape in the center, a toilet plunger on his head, and a big floral necktie with his red hoodie sweatshirt. Ladies EVERYWHERE were stopping him asking if they could get a photo with him and, charmer that he was, he was happy to oblige.

Will you be doing anything with Star Spangled Sailabration this weekend in the harbor? I am excited to be sailing in on my dad's yacht from Kent Island and dropping anchor off Fort McHenry to see the air show and fireworks Saturday!

I got to the BMQG blog somehow from another quilting blog and then was looking through that. I grew up in Balto. County. Honfest looks like fun, and reminiscent of my childhood!!!
